Gold Calculator: Buy, Sell, Loan and ₹ to Grams
Use today's rate in your city to estimate what jewellery will cost, what your old gold could fetch, how much you could borrow against it, or how much gold your budget buys.
Covers testing and melting loss. It varies by buyer, so try a few values.
Set by the lender within RBI limits. Around 75% is common.
How each calculator works
Buy jewellery. Gold value is the weight times the day's rate for your karat and city. The making charge is added next, either as a percentage or per gram, and GST at 3% is applied to the total. It is an estimate, since stone weight, wastage and hallmarking fees can change a real invoice.
Sell old gold. The buyer pays for the gold content at the day's rate, then deducts for testing and melting. Our deduction field lets you see how the amount changes. Read our guide on selling old gold for what to ask.
Gold loan. The lender lends a share of the gold's value. Our guide to how gold loans work explains the costs and risks.
₹ to grams. Enter a budget and see the grams, sovereigns and tola it buys at today's rate, with or without GST.
For 24K and 22K the calculators use the published city rate. For 18K and 14K they scale the 24K rate by purity.
Calculator FAQs
How do I calculate the price of gold jewellery?
Multiply the weight in grams by the day's rate for the karat. Add the making charge, which is either a percentage of the gold value or a fixed amount per gram. Then add 3% GST on the total. The Buy tab does all three steps.
What is a typical making charge?
It varies widely by design, from a few percent for plain bangles and coins to well over 15% for intricate or machine-made designs. It is set by the jeweller, so compare quotes from two or three shops.
Is GST charged on making charges too?
Yes, on jewellery sold by a jeweller the 3% GST applies to the combined value of the gold and the making charges. Check your invoice to confirm.
How much will I get if I sell my old gold?
Buyers pay for the gold content at the day's rate and deduct for testing and melting, so you receive less than the headline rate. The Sell tab gives a rough figure. Get at least two quotes before you decide.
How much loan can I get against gold?
Lenders value your gold at the day's rate and lend a share of it, called the loan-to-value ratio. The Loan tab shows the amount for an LTV you choose. Check your lender's actual ratio, fees and interest.
How many grams of gold can I buy for a fixed amount?
Divide the amount by the rate per gram. If you want GST included, divide by the rate plus 3%. The ₹ to grams tab does this and also converts to sovereigns and tola.
